As part of its publicity for the latest Artemis Fowl book, Puffin Books approached Groovy Gecko to provide a live interactive webcast featuring the creator of Artemis Fowl, cult children’s author, Eoin Colfer. As well as being live and interactive, Puffin aimed to create one of the largest ever single online link-up of schools across the country.

The webcast itself featured a thirty-minute talk by Eoin Colfer about writing, and about his much-loved character, Artemis Fowl. It gave budding writers the chance to listen to his experiences and be inspired to create their own works of fiction. He then answered questions from his online audience, some of which had been submitted via the minisite prior to the event, and others were submitted during his talk.

The resulting webcast was a resounding success. The popularity of Eoin Colfer, coupled with Puffin’s marketing efforts, led to a large audience, totalling 22,000 individuals and school groups, with many more people logging on to view the on-demand version at http://www.eoincolferlive.co.uk. This made it one of the largest single online link-up of schools across the country.
