American Airlines (AA) has announced it will be trialling in-flight streaming video services for its passengers over the coming months, it has been revealed.
Wi-Fi Net News reports that the US air operator will be undertaking a public trial of the system on a pair of 767-200 aircraft at the start of this summer. The system will include portable tablets that mean AA users will no longer have to view in-flight entertainment from the seatback of the person in front of them. It also marks a change in attitudes in the industry, as the technology has become cheaper to implement in recent years. The publication noted that this new innovation could help to reduce the need for live satellite feeds when flying, as time-delayed playback of streaming video could be used instead. Meanwhile, business futurologist James Bellini recently pointed out that small firms could be the ones that have the most to gain from new innovations in the IT sector. He claimed that it is often the smaller businesses that make the best use of new technologies, as they innovate in ways that larger firms simply cannot do. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
