Growth in streaming media audiences has been witnessed over recent months for cricket games in the Indian Premier League.
In excess of 20 million online views were recorded of the Twenty20 tournament over its first two weeks, with these figures likely to increase as the series reaches its climax. This represents an increase from peak viewer numbers of 11 million in 2010. Mudra Connext executive vice-president Manas Mishra said: "For advertisers it is challenging to find opportunities that allows them to advertise online as well as reach out to a wider audience." He added that this is one of the few online opportunities that lends itself especially well to brand building and product placement. Meanwhile, figures compiled by ABI Research recently predicted that the amount of data sent via the internet by 2016 will double its present level from eight to 16 petabytes. The report further predicted that streaming media and downloadable online content will be one of the major reasons for this growth. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
