The UK is falling behind in the rollout of mobile broadband services, in news that could affect the streaming media sector in the country. Chris Marling, editor of Broadband Genie, said investment in and delivery of the superfast mobile broadband network is considerably slower in the UK than it has been in many other countries. He commented: "In the US and some parts of Europe, 4G mobile broadband with speeds averaging more than 10Mb is already a reality - we are lucky to average 1Mb here." Mr Marling added that it is the same providers that are operating both abroad and in the UK, but at present, there seems less impetus to get new innovation and superfast broadband up and running successfully in the UK. According to culture secretary Jeremy Hunt, the government has announced its latest batch of superfast broadband areas that are to be upgraded across the UK. These locations include Wiltshire, Norfolk, Devon and Somerset, which are all to benefit from a combined £50 million in funding from the Broadband Delivery UK office.
