Research carried out by Nielsen has revealed that Netflix and Hulu viewers are consuming the majority of their streamed content on computers, with 89 per cent of Hulu subscribers watching in this manner.
In contrast, the 2011 H1 Mobile Trends Report from Allot showed that 52 per cent of mobile streaming video usage was taken up by YouTube in the first six months of 2011, making it the most popular site with mobile users. The Nielsen study also highlighted the different behaviours of Hulu users and Netflix users, analysing data from 1,200 Hulu and Netflix subscribers in March 2011. Unsurprisingly, it showed that 53 per cent of Netflix users showed a preference for watching movies, while 73 per cent of Hulu subscribers preferred TV content. However, only 18 per cent of Hulu users watched equal quantities of TV and movies, while this doubled (36 per cent) for Netflix subscribers. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
