Streaming video could be about to reach the next level of performance for viewers with the inclusion of DivX Plus technology to provide Blu-ray quality content.
Richard Bullwinkle, chief evangelist at Rovi, told technology publication TechRadar the introduction of the new system will offer a much-improved service to its set-top box users, with streaming video the ideal way to provide high-quality content because of the technology's versatility. "[With the technology] you can pick the audio track, subtitles on the fly when you are watching the stream and you can [include] a director's track," he commented. In addition, Mr Bullwinkle noted the high bandwidth required for true 1080p HD streaming is traditionally a problem; but with pre-loaded information in the DivX codec, bandwidth requirements can be vastly reduced and screen 'judder' is also diminished. Rovi lists among its partners a host of top content providers, including 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Warner Bros, Disney Studios and many more. It also works alongside a number of high-profile consumer electronics manufacturers, such as Sony and Dell. ![]() |
