Ooyala has announced it is to offer monetization services for streaming video providers on Facebook.
Dan Rayburn, principal analyst at Frost & Sullivan, wrote in his blog for streamingmedia.com that the firm's new social TV offering Ooyala Special will enable video hosters to charge for rentals, subscriptions, advertising or purchases of their content. The move is designed to increase revenue streams for providers and it could be highly lucrative, with Facebook reaching 750 million unique users each month. Furthermore, the new system will give Facebook users the ability to share videos and to chat live across multiple devices and technologies. He noted: "Facebook's platform is going to enable content owners to make a lot of cash from their videos and Ooyala is smart to start laying the groundwork." Furthermore, Facebook recently announced the launch of its new streaming audio service, which will be unveiled at this month's developer conference in San Francisco on September 22nd. It is believed the new service will not directly host or stream any media itself, but instead integrate content provided by a number of external sources. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
