Facebook has announced plans to integrate streaming audio solutions into its site in a bid to take the company beyond social networking.
Independent digital music analyst Mark Mulligan told the Daily Telegraph the decision is crucial to the long-term stability of Facebook, ensuring the site's users do not have to go elsewhere to consume the latest music content. He commented: "Facebook hasn't needed to have music properly embedded in its site until now. However, it is trying to be as defensible as possible against any potential Facebook killers which it knows could come along." Meanwhile, founder and chief executive of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has pushed back the company's IPO until September 2012. He told the Financial Times the move will help to keep employees focused on innovation and new developments, rather than on the prospect of a payout. The sale of private shares in the firm has valued Facebook at around $60 billion, meaning outside investors are keen to get a slice. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
