Streaming video provider Netflix has revealed changes to its pricing structure are set to result in up to one million US subscribers cancelling their deals.
Following the company's decision to split its streaming media and DVD content into two separate packages, Netflix has amended its forecast for US consumer numbers for the third quarter of the year from 25 to 24 million. "Once the dust settles from the impact of the pricing structure changes, we shouldn't see a material change in the growth trajectory," James Cordwell at Atlantic Equities told the Financial Times. He added that the majority of Netlix's growth comes from its streaming media content and the price for this service has not changed. The news of this latest setback for Netflix, however, follows the announcement that pay cable network Starz has ended its contract with the streaming video provider. Starz is now set pull its extensive line-up of films and TV shows from the Netflix platform in February 2012, when the current contract between the two companies expires. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
