New streaming video start-up YouView has announced it has published its draft user interface and search policy for industry consultation ahead of a prospective launch early next year.
The company is planning to provide on-demand streaming services combined with catch-up TV content and internet-delivered applications for its subscribers, but it is keen to ensure its interface and setup is fair for content providers. As such, this latest announcement will see providers able to use the proposed YouView interface to ensure search results are awarded on a fair, non-discriminatory basis. The industry consultation period will close on November 4th and the company will then make any recommended changes ahead of its official launch. YouView is set to be a non-subscription service, with users simply needing to purchase a set-top box and have a live internet connection and they will then be free to view on-demand streaming video content to their heart's content. It was formed after some of the UK's best-known broadcasters and broadband internet companies - such as the BBC, ITV and TalkTalk - got together to offer a new type of streaming media service.
