The new Amazon Kindle Fire tablet could be set to rival current major streaming video providers, as the technology will feature in-built streaming media features of its own.
Amazon has been building a library of more than 11,000 titles for buyers of the Kindle Fire, ensuring the product has a unique selling point to help it rival the present leader in the sector, the Apple iPad 2. The company's chief executive officer Jeff Bezos told Bloomberg Businessweek: "We don't think of the Kindle Fire as a tablet. We think of it as a service." He added that while other tablet providers are simply delivering hardware, Amazon aims to provide a complete entertainment package. Earlier this year, Amazon announced a new deal with US broadcaster CBS to include the full back catalogue of 18 of the company's most popular classic titles, including shows like Cheers, Frasier, the complete Star Trek franchise and Numb3rs.
