Cisco's streaming media offerings are to be enhanced by the acquisition of the privately-held technology firm BNI Video.
BNI Video was founded using investments from Comcast and Time Warner Cable and provides services such as video back-office and content delivery network analytic capabilities. By acquiring the firm, Cisco will be able to improve the capabilities of its Videoscape TV platform, which allows for the delivery of video content to any device over any IP network. It aims to simplify the delivery of online video content, while incorporating social media functionality and providing support for a full range of mobile devices. This comes after the recent acquisitions of ExtendMedia and Inlet Technologies and underlines the high priority area that streaming video represents for Cisco. Marthin De Beer, senior vice president and general manager of Cisco's emerging business group, said: "Cisco is committed to working with our service provider customers to deliver next-generation IP-based video experiences across devices."
