Streaming media provider Netflix has announced plans for the launch of its services in the UK in the new year.
The company has revealed its UK and Ireland services will be ready for launch in early 2012, with pricing details, content deals and supported applications to be revealed closer to the time. It is a step towards UK consumers being able to receive the same unlimited streaming media services which the company already offers in the US and Canada, with UK subscribers set to benefit from TV and film content direct to their internet-ready TVs and computers. Initially launched in the US in 2007, Netflix began offering Canadian subscribers the chance to view streamed content back in 2010 and this latest announcement highlights the firm's commitment to bringing new streaming video solutions to Europe in the near future. Meanwhile, research carried out by Strategy Analytics revealed there is growing demand for streaming media around the globe at present - with 42 million homes in the US and Europe already taking advantage of streaming services.
