Streaming TV portal SeeSaw has ceased operations.
The website was set up by Arqiva in February last year with technology from Project Kangaroo, the catch-up TV platform that fell foul of competition regulations before it could launch. It offered a variety of free-to-watch programmes from providers such as BBC Worldwide, Channel 4 and Channel Five supported by advertising. Criterion Capital Partners became the new majority stakeholder in an attempt to save the struggling venture earlier this year, but several channels recently pulled their content from the site and it has now shut down. "Arqiva is very disappointed by the failure of the new investors to provide their committed funding," SeeSaw's parent company told BBC News. "Without that funding the service had to close." A message on the website simply reads: "Thanks for your support but SeeSaw is no longer available". Ian Maude, head of internet at Enders Analysis, said the service had little chance of success in an extremely competitive market that includes the likes of YouTube and Amazon's LoveFilm.
