Virgin Media has released details of its recently announced tie-in with streaming audio platform Spotify.
Subscribers to the company's fibre optic broadband service will be able to use Spotify Premium free for six months, while Virgin Mobile customers can access the service via 3G on their phones without incurring any data charges. Streaming music from Spotify will not use any of the user's monthly data allowance. Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, described the launch of the deals as "a significant milestone for digital entertainment and the way it is enjoyed by consumers". She added that "telecoms companies moving into the music space increases revenue streams to the music industry". Virgin Media has also revealed plans to launch an app that enables people with TiVo video recorders to stream music from Spotify directly to their television sets in the coming weeks. French streaming music provider Deezer and mobile network Orange announced details of similar partnership in September. ![]() |
