Streaming media provider Netflix has agreed a deal to showcase content from movie studio Lionsgate via its soon-to-be-launched UK service.
The companies have agreed a partnership that will see Netflix become the exclusive subscription-based streaming service in the UK and Ireland for first-run Lionsgate feature films. Among the films this will cover are archive titles such as Reservoir Dogs and The Blair Witch Project, as well as forthcoming movies including The Hunger Games and The Expendables 2. The content will be viewable via connected TVs, tablets, consoles, mobile devices and PCs when Netflix makes its British market debut in early 2012. Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, said: "Lionsgate is an important and successful supplier of television series and movies to us in all of our territories." Netflix, which has more than 20 million streaming members in the Americas, was reported by the Guardian earlier this month as also being in talks with ITV, Channel 4, Warner Bros and Momentum Pictures over content deals ahead of its UK launch.
