Streaming media provider LOVEFiLM has responded to the imminent prospect of competition from Netflix with an exclusive new deal with Warner Bros.
A major film distribution agreement has been signed that will allow LOVEFiLM to deliver recent and forthcoming film releases via its digital subscription, pay-per-view and on-demand online streaming services. Films available exclusively as part of the second window subscription pay TV deal at the start of December will include The Hangover, The Dark Knight and Sex and the City 2, with additional content to be added regularly. This comes in the same week that Netflix, which will be launching in the UK in 2012, agreed distribution arrangements with the US film studios Miramax and Lionsgate. Simon Calver, chief executive officer of the Amazon-owned LOVEFiLM, said: "We are committed to delivering the best entertainment service possible - giving our members the content they want on the platforms of their choice."
