A new streaming video offering is to be introduced in the UK by Radioplayer, the online radio aggregator service.
Plans are being developed that would allow radio stations to stream live video to accompany their audio broadcasts via web-enabled TV sets, with a planned rollout over the next year. Radioplayer's UK managing director Michael Hill explained to New Media Age that this would allow radio stations to improve their experience among TV users via content such as slideshows, album art, live recorded footage or synchronised advertisements. The company is now looking to work with a third party specialist to develop a front end for its new connected TV offering. "Currently, the visual user experience for radio on TV sets is very clunky. We think we can improve on both the navigation and what you see when you are listening," said Mr Hill. Radioplayer is operated by the BBC, Global Radio, Guardian Media Group, Absolute Radio and RadioCentre, offering more than 300 different stations. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
