Sky has announced that its Sky Go application for iOS devices is to introduce new streaming movie services for Sky Movies subscribers.
The new feature will allow customers to access all 11 Sky Movies channels on a linear basis via a Wi-Fi connection, with 3G streaming capabilities to be added before the end of the year. Meanwhile, on-demand features will let users instantly stream new films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, Black Swan and Limitless to their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch devices. Ian Lewis, director of Sky Movies, said: "Sky Movies on demand is a great addition to Sky Go and gives customers complete control over how, when and now where they enjoy the latest movies." The service, which will be available to existing subscribers at no extra cost, could place Sky in competition with streaming movie retailers such as Apple and Amazon's LOVEFiLM. IT expert and columnist for The Register Andrew Orlowski said Sky could have an advantage in the market, due to the fact it produces its own content and takes a neutral approach to which device is used to access the service.
