Tesco and part-owned steaming content provider Blinkbox have announced a new service that will allow buyers of DVD and Blu-ray movies to access digital versions of the content at no extra cost.
The service is being introduced today (December 2nd 2011) and will allow Tesco Clubcard members to watch the titles they purchase on physical media through their PCs, consoles and internet TVs via streaming. Initially, 25 titles are eligible for this offer, including the new release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, as well as forthcoming DVDs such as The Hangover Part II and Final Destination 5. Customers will be able to access the service by linking their Tesco Clubcard and Blinkbox accounts, with the streaming movies appearing automatically in the Blinkbox library when the DVD is purchased. Richard Brasher, chief executive officer of Tesco UK, said: "This innovation with Blinkbox will help start a digital revolution, combining the physical DVD with the digital for the first time." The new service is functionally similar to UltraViolet, an entertainment industry-backed streaming service that is set to launch in the UK next year. Posted by Emma Johnson ![]() |
