Online video portal YouTube has outlined its plans for future growth following the launch of its redesigned homepage.
The Google-owned streaming video giant introduced its new interface on December 1st 2011, introducing a channel-oriented layout, better integration with social media and greater customisation of user pages. Shishir Mehrotra, vice president of product development at YouTube, told Wired that YouTube is attempting to marry "the best of TV and the best of what's online", having recently also agreed multiple exclusive deals with major content providers. A YouTube application for Xbox 360 is also set to be launched soon, which will further expand the reach of the service to a wider variety of devices. Product manager Shiva Rajaraman added: "I'm most excited about what we can do with tablets. The tablet environment just seems so natural for viewing video." This comes after the company expanded its UK offering in October 2011 with the introduction of a fully-featured rental service for movies. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
