Streaming TV content is to be introduced by online video service FilmFlex in 2012 as it seeks to build on the expansion of the market.
Jeff Henry, chief executive officer of FilmFlex, told Broadcast that the firm will be adding three or four new partners next year and will be aiming to become the first UK streaming service to successfully launch micropayment-based TV content delivery. While other providers such as Netflix and LOVEFiLM offer unlimited content for a monthly subscription fee, FilmFlex offers 24-hour access to digital rentals for around £3.50 a time. Mr Henry said the company will be seeking to work with businesses such as Shine Group and All3Media, which have succeeded in the DVD space and now wish to enter the digital market. He added: "Could there be the TV equivalent of the premium movie window? Would people pay to see the first episode of Downton Abbey early? I think they would." This comes after FilmFlex - which offers more than 4,000 movies through its service - recently announced a partnership with HMV to help the high street retailer launch its own streaming movie service.
