Microsoft is beginning the introduction of a wide array of new streaming services for its Xbox Live online network for Xbox 360.
As of today (December 6th 2011), the company has launched a new firmware update for the console that adds a new interface, voice control options and various live and on-demand video services from several leading content providers. In the UK, this includes the leading movie rental service LOVEFiLM, while international offerings encompass the likes of ESPN in the US, Netflix in Canada and Sky Go in Austria and Germany. Further services have been confirmed for introduction later this month, such as 4 On Demand, Blinkbox, Demand 5 and YouTube, while the likes of BBC and HBO Go will be added next year. Don Mattrick, president of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft, said: "A new era in entertainment begins where all your entertainment is together in one place - your games, movies, TV shows, music and sports." This comes after a report from Digital Foundry last month suggested that Microsoft could be planning to launch an affordable streaming-oriented Xbox model as one of two distinct iterations of its next home console.
