Apple has introduced new streaming capabilities for its Apple TV device in international territories.
Although the company is yet to officially announce the feature, users in the UK, Australia and Canada have observed that the unit can now be used to purchase, stream and download TV shows directly through their television sets. This feature was previously only available in the US, meaning international users were only capable of streaming content that had already been purchased for rental via iTunes. Apple's latest streaming service upgrade will allow it to compete better with key rivals such as Microsoft, which introduced a number of new streaming media applications for its Xbox 360 console earlier this week. It also puts the company a step ahead of Amazon, which is yet to make its Amazon Instant Video service available outside the US. This comes after BGR reported comments from Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair earlier this week suggesting that Apple could be planning to launch a new iMac model with integrated TV capabilities.
