Streaming media service Netflix saw its users accessing more than two billion hours worth of content in the final quarter of 2011.
Figures from the company show that Netflix's 20 million-plus customers worldwide greatly increased their use of streaming services over the last year, with TV shows and movies being watched online by people in 45 countries. In 2011, the provider was able to greatly expand its range of available content via new deals with studios such as CBS, Twentieth Century Fox, Lionsgate and Miramax, with films such as Drive, Hugo and Captain America soon set to be added to its catalogue. It has also announced a number of Netflix original series, such as David Fincher and Kevin Spacey's House of Cards and the Steven Van Zandt-starring Lilyhammer. Netflix co-founder and chief executive officer Reed Hastings said: "The more great TV shows and movies Netflix adds, the more people watch." The streaming service will make its debut in the UK in 2012, having recently agreed a deal with the BBC to offer local shows such as Doctor Who and Top Gear online. Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
