Streaming media service LOVEFiLM has announced that it has passed the two million mark in terms of subscribers.
The Amazon-owned company achieved the milestone following a record number of signups in the fourth quarter of 2011, during which its customer base grew at its quickest pace since LOVEFiLM launched in 2009. Simon Calver, chief executive officer of the company, said: "Our two million members can look forward to us adding even more world class content, in a variety of formats, to be delivered across an ever expanding range of digital platforms." This comes in the same month that LOVEFiLM agreed new content deals with the BBC and ITV, joining existing partners such as Sony, Warner Bros and StudioCanal. It also coincides with the launch of LOVEFiLM Instant, a new streaming-only service package that is being made available for an introductory rate of £4.99 per month. This price undercuts new UK rival Netflix, which made its British debut this week with a £5.99 a month unlimited subscription service. Posted by Geoff Phillips ![]() |
