Streaming media players from Roku are being made available in the UK and Ireland for the first time this week.
The company has made its European debut by announcing that the Roku LT and Roku 2 XS players, two of its most popular US models, can now be pre-ordered via Amazon, with additional UK retail partners to be announced at a later date. Roku offers on-demand streaming media services for TVs from more than 40 content partners, including Crackle, MLB.TV and WSJ Live, as well as photos and videos from Facebook and Flickr and casual games such as Angry Birds. One of its most prominent partners is Netflix, with the launch of Roku in the UK coinciding with the British debut of the streaming media service this week. Clive Hudson, vice president and general manager for Europe at Roku, said: "We are launching with a variety of entertainment channels and look forward to expanding our content selection in the same way that we have in the US, where we have more than 400 channels."
