The 2012 range of LG TVs are set to incorporate cloud gaming functionality for the first time via a new partnership with streaming service Gaikai.
An integrated smart TV cloud gaming service is set to be rolled out for LG Cinema 3D TVs over the coming year, with a prototype version displayed at the CES 2012 trade event in Las Vegas this week. Gaikai's service allows users to stream and play high-end home console games running on a remote server, meaning they can enjoy leading Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles without the need for dedicated hardware. Via the new partnership, consumers will be able to use their smart TV sign-ins to gain seamless access to a broad range of titles, with Gaikai's catalogue including chart-topping releases such as FIFA 12, Crysis 2, Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2. David Perry, chief executive officer of Gaikai, said: "Until today, to play the biggest blockbuster video games, every household has had to buy and set up expensive videogame console hardware. That's all about to change." Posted by Kevin Smith ![]() |
