A new US study has demonstrated that more than half of households are now commonly using streaming and downloadable media services.
Figures from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) show that 53 per cent of online US adults now watch some form of web-based media in their homes, as connected devices and services are becoming more prevalent. Streaming was shown to be more common than downloading among those accessing video content, while the reverse was true among those listening to digital audio. Other figures from the study showed that one-quarter of consumers are now interested in purchasing home media connectivity systems, while the role played by mobile broadband in making streaming content more accessible was also highlighted. A CEA representative said: "Manufactures, content providers, aggregators and service providers must work together to ensure the content customers want is accessible through different devices." This backs the conclusions of a recent Deloitte report suggesting that the growing accessibility of devices such as internet TVs, smartphones and games consoles is making streaming more popular.
