Streaming service Hulu is expanding its operating model with the launch of its first ever original scripted series this year.
The content delivery company is set to premiere the political faux-documentary dramedy Battleground - executive produced by JD Walsh, Hagai Shaham and Marc Webb - on February 14th 2012 in the US. It follows on the heels of Hulu's success with its first original programme, the Morgan Spurlock documentary series A Day in the Life, which will return for a second season this March. Meanwhile, the streaming service will also be debuting another episodic documentary series - Up to Speed, from filmmaker Richard Linklater - over the summer. Andy Forssell, Hulu's senior vice president of content, said Hulu is proving itself to be "an efficient way of connecting engaged audiences with shows they truly love". This comes after streaming media rival Netflix branched out into original content last year, announcing shows such as the Kevin Spacey-starring House of Cards and gangster drama Lilyhammer.
