Online newspaper the Huffington Post is set to launch its own streaming media network, according to a report.
Forbes states that the news organisation will soon be announcing launch plans for the Huffington Post Streaming Network (HPSN), a live over-the-internet video channel inspired by the style of 24-hour cable news networks such as CNN. Editors and reporters from the 320-person Huffington Post newsroom will analyse breaking stories in real time throughout the day, producing content that can be recut into clips for later redistribution. The launch would help to satisfy advertiser demand for premium video content and would also encourage interaction via social media, which would be incorporated into the broadcasts. It will be similar to the Wall Street Journal's WSJ Live and New York Times' TimesCast services, but on a much larger scale. Founded in 2005 by Arianna Huffington, the Huffington Post has become a leading online news source and was acquired by AOL last year, shortly before the launch of its UK edition.
