The president of the United States, Barack Obama, has been questioned by members of the public via live webcasting technology. After thousands of queries were sent in, six were chosen to be answered by the head of state. Questions on jobs, health care and mortgages were all fielded, with Mr Obama able to get out of his seat before an audience of 100 hand-picked guests. Although the use of video streaming for such a purpose was an experiment for the White House website, the event could signal the start of a trend in government PR. "This is an experiment, but it's also an opportunity for me to look at a computer and get a snapshot of what Americans across the country care about," said Obama in a video message. Local councils and electoral administrators are among those to have already used live webcasting to reach a wider section of the public. ![]() |
