Sony Pictures is rumoured to be considering a venture with YouTube to stream movies on the website. The two firms are said to be in talks surrounding a deal which would see consumers able to access full-length films for free. Full details of the negotiations are unknown as yet, although it is expected that any potential partnership would have to carry financial benefits for both firms. One suggestion is that the link-up would follow the format of the MGM movie content which is already available on YouTube. Users can stream these clips for free, but are also faced with short adverts. Details of the proposed venture follow the release of a report from Credit Suisse which revealed that YouTube could lose $470 million (£321 million) over the course of 2009. The video-sharing site is expected to generate revenue of $240 million for the year, but content licensing and storage costs, alongside bandwidth and marketing expenses look likely to damage the overall results. ![]() |
