Consumers have responded warmly to Virgin's recent trial run of rolling out advertisements alongside its on demand TV service. In a statement issued by the company, it was reported that 54 per cent of those customers polled reacted positively to advertising when watching on-demand content from commercial providers. Of those, 65 per cent expressed a preference for streaming adverts before the main content, while a majority also stated that they wished to see products relevant to the chosen programmes. Welcoming the findings, Mark Schweitzer, chief commercial officer at Virgin Media said: "Our TV customers watched more than half a billion on demand programmes during 2008 and the service’s popularity has grown by over 60 per cent during those 12 months. "By continuing to develop our on demand TV platform, we can offer even more great content and choice to viewers, a compelling opportunity for advertisers and the potential for an additional revenue stream to broadcasters." Earlier this month, the latest annual Consumers and Convergence study released by KPMG revealed that around 60 per cent of consumers would be more willing to receive internet marketing in return for being able to stream free content. ![]() |
