US viewers watched 16.8 billion online streaming videos in April, new figures from comScore reveal. The firm's Video Metrix service showed that the number of web users to watch streaming videos in April represented a 16 per cent increase from the previous month and was boosted by an increase in the amount of YouTube viewers. Google sites ranked in the top spot with 6.8 billion videos watched, representing a 40.7 per cent of the online video market share. Coming in second place was Fox Interactive Media, with 513 million video watched, followed by Hulu with 397 million and Yahoo! Sites with 355 million. Microsoft Sites, Viacom Digital, Turner Network, CBS Interactive and AOL also made the top ten list in terms of viewing figures. Almost 152 million web users watched an average of 111 streaming videos each. Google averaged 63 videos per viewer, while Fox Interactive users consumed 8.7 videos each. YouTube recently announced plans to stream the feature-length environmental documentary Home by Luc Besson at the same time as it is released in cinemas.
