The official website of US Major League Baseball, Mlb.com, has announced that it is set to stream full-length live games via its Mlb.com at Bat 2009 application for the iPhone and iPod. Up to two games will be streamed live every day as part of the new offering, with a host of out-of-market games currently offered through live streaming video product Mlb.tv Premium also being made available. Using http streaming technology, Mlb.com will offer high quality video with adaptive bitrate and DVR capabilities over a Wi-Fi connection or carrier network. In addition, the application will offer live audio broadcasts, real-time video highlights, a continuously updated scoreboard and a short-form video recap of important highlights. "It's hard to express how cool the new streaming technology really is," said Chad Evans, mobile product manager at Mlb Advanced Media. "Being able to watch a live game on your phone for the first time - I think everyone here's really excited about that." A recent survey by In-Stat found that web-to-TV is on the rise and is expected to be worth around £1.7 billion by 2013. ![]() |
