The problem of illegal downloading could be solved by unrestricted media download services paid for by reasonable monthly fees, according to TorrentFreak.com. Measures aimed at curbing illegal downloads such as civil action will have "no deterrent function at all" and will simply result in people who are file sharing illegally to hide their identity, the company said. "Unlimited access to online media is what consumers demand these days, but there is not yet a service that fulfils this need," a spokesperson for TorrentFreak.com explained. "For the music industry, this would mean that they have to come up with a plan where people can download and stream for a fixed price." The spokesperson added that as the average consumer currently buys three to four CDs every year, if streaming services providers charge £7 a month, they would be making more money than they are right now. According to the recent Digital Britain White Paper released last week by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, most people prefer to consume digital content legally if given reasonable options. ![]() |
