An expert has stated that making broadband access available to everyone is pointless if it will just end up being expensive. Mark Jackson, of ISPreview.co.uk, said the government's target of making super fast broadband universally available may be redundant if people cannot afford it and if services are incapable of meeting demands for online streaming video content. He added that the government's Digital Britain report places too much emphasis on the speed of universal broadband connections instead of paying due attention to other important areas such as Voice over Internet Protocol and Internet Protocol Television. Moreover, not enough concentration is being directed towards the importance of good upstream speeds and flexible usage allowances, Mr Jackson said. The expert's comments come following a recent announcement from the Business and Enterprise Committee that it will carry out an inquiry examining broadband speeds in the UK after the Digital Britain report highlighted the government's plan to improve broadband access. ![]() |
