Web users are not just keen on short streaming video clips but are increasingly consuming longer length content. There is an increasing popularity of ten to 20-minute online streaming videos, fuelled by faster and more sophisticated broadband internet connections, reports the New York Times. Viral videos are now being "supplanted" by content produced by ad hoc producers and script writers with low-cost editing and production equipment, offering viewers a much wider range of streaming content. Jon Gibs, vice president of media analytics at Nielsen, told the New York Times: "Historically it has been very much a clip-based experience online. We believe we are moving into a transition period where more of that viewership is going toward long-form video." Figures released by Nielsen last month revealed that there were 133,797 unique streaming content viewers in May - a 12.8 per cent growth from last year. There were also more than ten million total streams in May - a 34.8 per cent year-on-year increase. ![]() |
