Online video streaming site YouTube has announced that the size limit of uploads offered to users has increased. Standard uploads have now doubled from one gigabyte to two gigabytes, offering users the chance to upload higher resolution and longer videos. A host of new features are also being introduced, including a greater variety of ways in which users can share their online streaming content. As part of the new changes, YouTube users will also have the chance to upload large high-definition (HD) clips directly from their camera and share them with other users. Writing on the official YouTube blog, Ryan Junee, the company's product manager, explained: "To share a link to the HD version of your video, simply append &hd=1 to the end of the URL. This means the video will start playing in HD as soon as someone follows the link." Meanwhile, it was recently announced that YouTube co-founder Steven Chen has begun working on a number of special products with Google, after stepping down as chief technology officer of the video hosting site late last year. ![]() |
