Sony's latest games console, the PlayStation 3, is set to offer an all-round entertainment experience by integrating a video streaming system into its technology. The move will allow gamers to access a wide range of video-on-demand services, as media streaming becomes an increasingly important part of the modern entertainment package. Writing on the Euro PlayStation blog, European PlayStation store manager Angela Madronero hinted that the PlayStation 3 would incorporate video streaming technology when the latest version is launched at the Gamescom convention next week. "At Games Convention in August last year, we announced that we had a long-term plan to launch a video on demand service for some countries," she said. Ms Madronero added that remains the organisation's plan and details would be forthcoming shortly, with an official announcement due for the convention. The news follows recent figures that have shown a continued rise in the demand for video streaming services. Statistics released by Ipsos MediaCT's biannual MOTION Study revealed that 26 per cent of online Americans streamed a full-length television programme during July, more than double the figure for the previous September. ![]() |
