Local councils have woken up to the benefits of webcasting and will post videos of their meetings on the internet for constituents to stream. The pilot scheme is being trialed by Scottish councils in Inverness and will see the discussions of the strategic planning environment and development committee published in video format on the web, reports the Press and Journal. Convener Sandy Park said: "In a remote area like the Highlands, webcasting has a role to play in opening up our debates to the public. "We will be piloting webcasting at our Inverness headquarters with planning and licensing meetings, but will look to expand this service to other committees and other locations if the public value the service." The popularity of watching videos online has been illustrated this month with the successful launch of Microsoft's new streaming application. In its first 11 days, the MSN video player, which streams content over the internet, was used nearly 170,000 times. ![]() |
