The increasing popularity of online streaming videos has "fundamentally shifted" the concept of prime time, a new study suggests. According to a report from Yahoo, Interpret LLC, Havas Digital, Warner Bros Media Research and PHD, consumers are now watching content round the clock, as opposed to within the traditional period of 20:00 to 23:00. The study, which was presented at the Ad:tech Chicago conference, also revealed online video consumption is popular all the time - particularly when people are at work. Significant increases in web-base video consumption also occurred between 12:00 midday and 15:00 and between 21:00 and 01:00. A third of people who watch online videos said they shared them with friends, colleagues and family members. Almost one in five videos viewed online, representing more than 2.5 billion video streams per month, are videos friends, colleagues or family members have shared via email, instant message or through social networks, the report said. A recent study by Mediamark Research & Intelligence found that 21 per cent of US adults are interested in watching streaming content on their mobile phones. ![]() |
