Suspending the internet accounts of those who fileshare audio files illegally will not stop it happening, an expert has claimed. Nigel Sachdev, managing director of online music community Stereoboard.com, said cutting off filesharers is a "severe step in the wrong direction". He stressed that while Stereoboard.com does not condone illegal filesharing, the company believes that it is time for the music industry to embrace the current situation and work with artists and filesharers to find a mutually beneficial resolution to the predicament. "It is very sad to see the government once again bowing to corporate pressures rather than looking out for the interests and livelihoods of its citizens," Mr Sachdev said. "The [music] industry now has to go forwards not backwards - one thing for sure is that there isn't a simple fix to make filesharing go away." British musicians including Lily Allen and members of Radiohead and Blur recently met at AIR Studios in London and voted to support a three-strike sanction for people who persistently download illegal files. ![]() |
