YouTube has announced that Warner Music Group streaming songs will return to its website over the next few months. The breakdown of the embargo comes after the streaming songs were removed at Warner Music's request nine months ago, after the two companies failed to reach a licensing agreement. Warner Music and YouTube have now reached a mutually beneficial deal, under which the two companies will share advertising revenue, with Warner taking charge of its advertising sales for its videos. As part of the multi-year deal, Warner will create its own specific channels for artists and sell advertising around those channels. Chris Maxcy, head of music partnerships at YouTube, commented in a blog post: "Music licensing: it's complicated. But all of that is beside the point: we are happy to announce that Warner Music Group's artists are returning home to YouTube." Earlier this month, YouTube struck a deal with the Performing Rights Society, which led to tens of thousands of streaming videos returning to the site after they were removed in March. ![]() |
