YouTube now streams more than one billion videos every day, new figures reveal. According to YouTube's own data, some 30 billion videos are watched on the Google property every month. This figure takes into account global totals and thus far exceeds estimates put forward last month by comScore, which said the number of videos streamed on YouTube every month stood at ten billion. The report released by comScore also suggested that YouTube's content represents 40 per cent of all videos watched online, but this figure may in fact be much higher given YouTube's revised data. A company spokesperson told the New York Times that the figures were released on the third anniversary of YouTube's $1.65 billion (£1 billion) agreement to sell itself to Google, as this would be an ideal time to talk about the company's growth. YouTube recently announced preliminary plans to start an online streaming movie rental service with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lions Gate Entertainment.
