A new survey has found that web users would rather watch online streaming content for free than pay for it. The study, which was conducted by the Diffusion Group on behalf of Digitalsmiths, found that just 18 per cent of respondents are somewhat likely to pay for streaming video content. Meanwhile, more than three in ten web users said they would definitely not pay for such a service. Just under a quarter (23.7 per cent) of the survey's respondents said they are neither likely nor unlikely to sign up to watch streaming television content on a computer or mobile device, while only 4.6 per cent said they would definitely sign up. David Hallerman, senior analyst at eMarketer, said consumers are more likely to engage with streaming content if a number of conditions are met. "Video destinations that offer extensive content in exchange for fewer ads and lower fees would attract a large audience," he said. Comcast recently announced plans to unveil a new online streaming video service featuring cable content at the end of the year. ![]() |
