Google plans to add significant improvements to the voice and streaming video chat capabilities of its apps, the search engine company has announced. As part of the proposed developments, the experience of launching a voice or live streaming video chat session will be linked from within Gmail to the other apps components. At the moment, Gmail's voice and streaming video chats are limited to one-to-one communications but Google plans to extend this capability to more than two participants. Rishi Chandra, a Google apps product manager, said: "This [Gmail capability] is the first step in a much broader set of features we hope to roll out over the next six to 12 months around video chat capabilities. It's a great opportunity for us to push that space along." He added that Google has decided that it will not add a separate application to the suite. According to recent data from internet metrics company Net Applications, Google Chrome has increased its share of the web browser market. ![]() |
