The total number of online video streams increased by 26 per cent in October, new figures show. According to data from the Nielsen Company the number of unique online video viewers also increased, as did the proportion of streams per viewer. The time spent watching streaming videos per viewer also rose by 24 per cent. Overall there were 138.6 million unique viewers, 11.2 billion video streams and 81 streams per viewer. YouTube was the most popular website for video content with over six million streams, followed by Hulu, Facebook, MSN, Yahoo and Fox Interactive Media. Yahoo has experienced a decline in popularity, dropping to fifth place from the third spot in September. The number of online video streams viewed on social networking and blog sites rose by 45 per cent year-on-year from 240.8 million streams in October 2008 to 349.5 million in October 2009. A recent study from Eyeblaster found that streaming video ads on social media sites have lower dwell rates than those on news websites. ![]() |
