Web conferencing services hosted in Europe are becoming increasingly popular, according to new analysis from Frost & Sullivan. A report from the firm found that the web conferencing services market earned revenues of $162.6 million (£97 million) in 2008 - a figure that is estimated to reach around $657.1 million in 2014. The study revealed that the hosted web conferencing services segment grew at a rate of 14.9 per cent from 2007 to 2008, an increase largely attributed to a growing awareness of web conferencing technology. A greater uptake among small and medium-sized businesses is also cited by Frost & Sullivan as a reason for the increased popularity of web conferencing. Iwona Petruczynik, research analyst at Frost & Sullivan, said: "The global recession and stringent environmental laws introduced by the European Parliament in 2008 are driving organisations to reduce their travel expenses and comply with green policies. "Web conferencing services certainly help in achieving these objectives." Pete Goold, managing director of Punch Communications, recently said that the rise of video conferencing technologies is increasing the popularity of remote working. ![]() |
